The server which hosts the Zinc website was taken down for essential maintenance on the 8th of January, and consequently the website was unavailable.

28 Dec 2003: Zinc 1.03 Released

On the 28th of December 2003 Zinc version 1.03 was released. Zinc stands for the Z Interpreter with Network Capabilities. It combines interpreters for the most popular interactive fiction game formats (i.e. Z-Machine and TADS) with a mapping facility and a unique cooperative multiplayer mode.

1 Sep 2003: Zinc Team Celebrates 2000 Downloads

At some point during August 31st, the 2000th copy of Zinc was downloaded. To celebrate, we will shortly be releasing a new version; it's been in the works for a while but other commitments have prevented us from finishing it.

On the 16th of May 2003 Zinc version 1.01 was released. Zinc stands for the Z Interpreter with Network Capabilities.

11 May 2003: Small Update Pending

We're working on a small update to the current version, with the release anticipated to be made on Monday afternoon or at least during the first half of next week.

A number of issues will be addressed in this release, including a rather embarrassing bug which stopped all version 4 Z-machine games (including A Mind Forever Voyaging and Trinity) from accepting input from the player.

2 May 2003: Zinc 1.0 Released

On the 5th of May 2003 the first release of Zinc - the Z Interpreter with Network Capabilities - was made available.

As noted in the Zinc website's About page, Zinc was originally a University coursework project. It was this release that was submitted for marking and which scored an impressive 82%. You can read more at http://www.bits.bris.ac.uk/zinc/about.php

18 Apr 2003: Second Beta Release

On the 18th of April 2003 the second public beta release of Zinc - the Z Interpreter with Network Capabilities - was made available. There were many improvements including the ability to change game console fonts and colours, a properly unified installer for all platforms, and many bug fixes!
